On July 9, 2022 we celebrated the 3rd Wine & Groove at Castelló Murphy. It was an opportunity to make wine come together with music, as the label of the Liber (our white wine) shows us, which we used as the event poster. The label is actually a painting by Juliette Murphy, the family artist.
The afternoon began with a visit to the cellar, where we were able to explain that we work in an artisanal and ecological way in the house of the Castelló family that is more than 400 years old. The stone walls and the vaults of slate and reed preserve many stories that make the cellar unique.
Returning to the garden of the house, where we find a space that had previously been an orchard for the family's livelihood and which today is almost a forest that was planted by Joan and Juliette about 30 years ago, we started the dinner paired with our wines while we had the Jazz Atzur group offering us Jazz, Bossanova and Blues songs.
For the first pairing, Juliette prepared us a vegetable tabouleh which combined with the Liber, a dry and very floral white wine made of Muscat of Alexandria, was fantastic. Meanwhile, Carles and Lisa from Jazz Atzur were showing off.
Then, for the second pairing, we enjoyed a dish that contained spinach and feta cheese quiche with smoked salmon and rúcula. With this, we combined our rosé called Ixent, a directly pressed Red Grenache that served very fresh, gave us red fruits and an acidity that transported us to the magic of summer.
Night was coming in, Carles and Lisa were doing amazing, and all of us with them. For the third pairing, we tasted three cow cheeses: the first was a cured cheese from Peralada, the second was semi-cured from La Cerdanya and the third was a Brie. Accompanied by jamón serrano from the Pelai butcher's shop in Sant Climent and with the Màfora, our Red Grenache red wine that has been in clay amphorae from La Bisbal d'Empordà for 5 months, it was a mariage.
With our bellies full of food and wine, the conversations started being memorable. We proceeded to serve the Samas, a red wine from Merlot and Samsó from old vines aged in oak barrels for 6 months, which together with a tarta de Santiago, also cooked by Juliette, transported us to the deepest Rabós of slate soils and intense grapes full of ripe fruit flavor. At the same time of serving the Samas, and to everyone's surprise, we sang together the happy birthday to Núria, who came to visit us with her family. We dedicated a chocolate cake to her that she sure enjoyed a lot.
And for the evening to end in the best possible way, Joan (the owner of the cellar) offered us the wine Without name or Special, a Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot from 2013, which having been in oak barrels for 2 years and in bottle for 7 years, it left our mouths in paradise.
Thank you all for coming and we hope to see you again very soon!
